Communication Goal Statement :: essays research papers
Part I: I am currently working at the as a social worker assistant. Prior to working at the nursing home I was employed at a restaurant as a general manager. I have found that my current job to be very rewarding. The reason I am majoring in social work is because I have a strong desire to help people, make things better, and make a difference in peopleââ¬â¢s lives. My goal is to become a licensed social worker and work in the gerontology field. The communication skills I currently use in the field of social work are as follows: 1.à à à à à Listening skills, such as listening to the client and understanding client needs and wants more carefully and responsively. Acknowledging the feelings they are expressing. Compassionately allowing them to express their feelings. Listening and reflecting back on what I hear allows me to identify clientââ¬â¢s thoughts. Listening in the field of social work is crucial in understanding clientââ¬â¢s situation. Listening responsibly lets the client know you care about them. 2.à à à à à Explaining conversational intent and invite client consent. In order to help client cooperate and reduce any misunderstandings, invite client to join in the kind of conversation you want to have. Whether it may be long, complex, or short, explain intention and invite the consent o the client. This step has encouraged me to expand possible conversations and practice in a variety of conversations. It also allows client to trust and understand where conversation is heading. 3.à à à à à Interviewing skills, which are used daily in the field of social work. Questioning clients is a very important part in assessing the client. Learning how to use open-ended as well as close-ended questions at the appropriate times is crucial when assessing the client. Asking questions is a powerful tool in focusing conversational attention and guiding interaction with others. There are many creative possibilities in using interviewing skills. 4.à à à à à Expressing appreciation is important in building relationships with the people around me in the nursing home as well as the social work field. Expressing delight, affirmation, encouragement, and gratitude is an important part in appreciation technique. The nursing home continually requires social workers to attend to problems and it gets very easy to see what may need to be fixed. By giving appreciation makes the relationship with the client strong and easier to when working with client problems or disagreements. It also gives the client a sense of self- worth and a higher self-esteem.

A Comparison of Two Advertisements :: Papers
A Comparison of Two Advertisements Advertisements are messages that are intended to influence and persuade their audience. Their purpose is to raise awareness of the existence of their product in the people whom they target and to promote the benefits of buying or using it. Adverts are paid for by the advertisers and is a major source of income for magazines - approximately 40% of revenues. Without money from advertising, much of the modern media would not exist. Therefore advertising is a commercial business as opposed to ââ¬Ëfreeââ¬â¢ publicity like press releases and photo opportunities. A range of advertisers exist in the UK. Many of them are small companies who are trying to promote themselves. Bigger companies will buy in an advertising agency to create the messages in relevant media. Also, the Government spends considerable amounts of money on advertising. They produce two types of advertisements; information (i.e. tax returns) and persuasive (i.e. not to drink drive). I am going to compare and analyse two advertisements from magazines. Magazines have a ready-made pre-defined target audience, so they provide an effective point of contact for advertisers and their target consumers. Both of my chosen adverts are from ââ¬ËBlissââ¬â¢, a teenage magazine aimed at girls roughly aged 11-19. It is the second biggest selling teen title and leads the market in editorial innovation and exciting new ideas. The messages of this type of mainstream magazine are dedicated to the ideal image of a teenage girl who is independent, sexy and looks after her appearance. Fashion, cosmetics and beauty tips take up 50 pages of the magazine, so a substantial part of it is devoted to the improvement of the body and looks. Because image dominates the magazine so much, it seems the ideal medium for advertising lip products. The first advert I have chosen to analyse is advertising a new lipstick. My second advert is promoting is a lip gloss. I am going to scrutinize each advertisement separately, examining how the techniques they have used persuade the consumer to purchase the product, and then

With which client would I have the most difficulty working?
According to my beliefs the negative member is the most difficult to handle. According to Jacobs, Masson and Harvill the negative client is one who has a tendency to find problems with everything. A negative client is capable of transforming a group session into a gripe session. (Jacobs, Masson and Harvill, 2006) A negative client causes a negative influence on the group as a whole and is capable of instigating a feeling of discontent among other group members. Presence of one or more negative client in a group may lead to lowering of the groups morale. How would I handle a negative client in a group? My reactions against unreasonable demands of a negative client would probably be instinctive. I would resort to direct confrontation with the negative client, although this would not be the ideal course of action since Jacobs, Masson and Harvill have recommended that group leaders should refrain from direct confrontation because it only leads to time consuming arguments between the leade r and a negative client. How would Jacobs, Masson and Harvill have handled a negative client?Jacobs, Masson and Harvill suggest three alternative courses of action which will enable the leader to effectively handle a negative client. The first course of action is to talk to the negative client outside the group and try determining the reason for his unacceptable behavior. In most cases negative clients suffer from lack of attention and the problem can be solved if they are offered an important role. The second option as suggested by Jacobs, Masson and Harvill involves identifying the positive members of the group (ie those members who are contented with the group).By talking to the positive members in a group a leader can motivate those members who have been influenced by the negative client. The third option calls for de motivating and isolating a negative client. This goal can be achieved if the group leader avoids making an eye contact with the negative client while addressing th e group as a whole. Incase neither of the 3 courses of action are successful in improving the negative client, Jacobs, Masson and Harvill suggest that asking the negative client to leave is only option that the leader is left with. If there are any members in my group who have taken up the role of a negative client? What effect has it had on the group? I have encountered negative clients in my group; such group members cause a lot of problem. They create a wide spread feeling of discontent among the group which leads to fragmentation of the group. The group gets subdivided into two sections one of which harbors feeling of negativity and discontent and the other section comprises of positive members who are satisfied with the current state of affairs. Fragmentation of a group results in loss of productivity. Therefore it is important to prevent the group member from acquiring negative tendencies.

OSHA and EPA Coursework Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
OSHA and EPA - Coursework Example OSHA was primarily formed to ensure optimal and safe working conditions for the employees through the set-up of standards that provide the necessary training, outreach, education, and assistance. It was also tasked with the enforcement of whistleblower statutes and regulations (Rodrigues and Cusick, 2012). EPA, on the other hand, conducts routine environmental assessments and enforces national standards under different environmental laws. The organization also has powers to fine or sanction institutions whose operations contravene the set environmental statutes. OSHAââ¬â¢s standards apply in the aviation industry with regards to the safety standards. For example, when working on a flight line, the employee is to be provided with protective gear such as safety glasses, steel toe boots, hearing protection equipment and so forth. These requirements are in accordance with the OSHA standards. In addition, OSHA requires that the employees who work in high noise environment be subjected to periodic hearing examinations (Rodrigues and Cusick, 2012). The organization also outlines guidelines to be followed in the identification of methods for handling hazardous chemicals such as hydraulic fluids, jet fuel, battery maintenance and so forth. This standard demands that all employees tasked with maintaining these dangerous chemicals must undergo appropriate training. Moreover, a material safety data sheet that lists all the chemicals on site, their composition, and the precautions to be adhered to should be made available. The Environmental Protection Agency is primarily tasked with the regulating the disposal of hazardous chemicals in the environment. The organizations Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) has a direct impact on the aviation industry. The RCRA act requires the airlines to take up the responsibility for the management, control and disposal of the toxic substances related to the industry (Rule, 2011).These materials include

Cog-wk6 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words - 1
Cog-wk6 - Essay Example There is no right or wrong in choosing which coding you prefer. What is important is how you make use of the coding style that you use. With the style of coding you choose, learning and memory can be improved; knowledge can widen; and perception may be altered in a positive and resourceful manner. Visual and verbal coding are the styles of coding that each individual uses in order for him to get back to his memory when needed. However, choosing one of these types is under oneââ¬â¢s own will. Though there is no right or wrong in choosing oneââ¬â¢s desired style, it would still be up to that individual on how he makes use of what he has chosen. With whatever style he chooses, this should help him in a positive manner like making him a better person in a number of ways; not to make him dysfunctional that may lead to making him a lesser person. Visual coding is a lot more practical for the right brain thinkers. A right brain thinker is usually random, intuitive, synthesizes holistically, subjective, and looks at wholes (McCarthy, 2008). In the manners that they posses, visual coding styles like drawings, charts, and graphical representations of things might look more appealing. An example is when a person who falls under this thinking mechanism is asked regarding the shape of an egg, he might as well draw an egg rather than to explain its shape (Sternberg, 2009). Personally, I believe that having its graphical representation seems better for right brain thinkers because I am a right-brain thinker myself. Explaining things verbally and looking into the smallest, yet vital details of an object really do exhaust me. Having them on words makes it a little too complicated for me. Left brain thinkers on the other hand prefer verbal coding for they are logical, sequential, rational, analytical, objective, and are able to look into the parts of a whole (McCarthy, 2008). With this, explaining different phenomena on details is more helpful to them for they are
